Principal’s Post – Feb. 5

Dear Parents:

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK: What a wonderful week it has been celebrating our Catholic School.  No blizzard was going to stop us!  We had a wonderful open house on Sunday, and I appreciate all the parents who turned out to help show potential families our wonderful school.  I am especially grateful to the students who came to Mass in uniform.  They, plus the choir and altar servers who were there have earned a “spirit wear” day.  That will be on Friday, February 12.  Other events during the week highlighted the talented students that we have.  On Tuesday we had the middle school geography bee, and we congratulate the winner, Lily Bernero.  Lily will take an online test to determine if she will move forward to the state contest.  We also had spelling bees in all classes from 1st-6th grade.  These are not all completed, so we will announce those winners next week.  The 7th/8th grade spelling bee was held on Thursday and our winner was Eric Yoon in 8th grade.  Runner up was Kacey Hurley in 7th grade.  Eric will represent our school at the diocesan spelling bee on February 27 at St. Thomas More School. Today was the Science Fair and we welcomed judges from the Washington Academy of Sciences to judge the projects. Our student and teacher appreciation days were full of joy, and we are grateful to the 8th grade parents for providing a delicious lunch for the staff on Wednesday.

RE-REGISTRATION AND TUITION RATES: Re-registration is under way, and we are delighted to announce that tuition rates will remain unchanged for next year.  We realize that you have many choices in education and, while we know we offer an excellent program, we also understand the financial constraints, especially in this area. We are grateful that you have chosen St. Ambrose School for your children. The tuition chart is below and we hope that you will re-register soon.  This enables us to have an accurate count for planning purposes.

LENTEN SOUP SUPPER:  Each Friday in Lent St. Ambrose Parish offers a Lenten Soup Supper to provide for community as together we journey towards the glorious season of Easter.  On February 12, St. Ambrose School will host the supper and provide soups and other items.  I invite you to be a part of this spiritual journey on that day, from 6-7 pm, and then join us for the Stations of the Cross in the Church.  We are grateful to Carrie Walker for taking the lead on this and we ask you to offer your support in bringing food items or helping in another way.  There is Sign-Up Genius for you to indicate how you want to support.  Please take a moment to look this over, and I hope to see you there.

PARENT ASSEMBLY ON CYBER BULLYING AND SOCIAL MEDIA: The St. Ambrose School PTO is hosting a seminar on cyber safety and security for parents on February 16th at 7:00pm in the parish hall.  Parents with children of all ages are invited and encouraged to come hear Officer Kathleen O’Leary of the Fairfax County Police Department speak about practical ways to ensure safe online access for children.

Have a wonderful and safe weekend and pray to St. Medard for no more snow!
