Update from Mrs. Dalmut – Jan. 8, 2015

Dear Parents and Faculty,

After much consideration, St. Ambrose is going to continue to follow Fairfax County Public Schools for inclement weather-related decisions. I will not send you emails telling you that our school is closed or opening late. We will all simply follow the public announcements about the school closings. I would recommend that you sign up to Keep In Touch for  these notices: http://www.fcps.edu/kit/. They will email you and/or text you when there is a change in the openings or closings. You can also check fcps.edu, the local TV stations, or the radio stations.  If we need to close school for a specific reason (no electricity, for example), we will notify you through our emergency email and voicemail system.

Realistically, this has been a tough week for FCPS. They usually get the closings right. Considering the large area covered by the county, they make reasonable decisions for the safety of all. Our own community covers parts of Maryland, as far away as Front Royal in Virginia, and many different highways and back roads. Springfield’s weather and road conditions can  even differ drastically from Annandale! There is no decision that will make everyone happy all the time. FCPS has the resources to make the decisions that will be right most of the time.

I hope that you are enjoying your day off. I am  looking forward to seeing your children in the morning! Check with FCPS to make sure we are “on”!

God bless,

Barbara Dalmut
