Update from Mrs. Dalmut – Octoberfest this Saturday

Dear Parents and Teachers,

Can we talk? If you could please give me the next 3 minutes of your time, I would be most grateful.

At the PTO Board meeting last night, we had a very intense conversation about communication and parent participation. I want to make sure that you all know about the Oktoberfest this Saturday!

  1. This is a social event – not a fundraiser. When was the last time you went out and had social conversation? Life goes through stages. I would bet that most of you are not able to stop and chat with friends after work – too many responsibilities at home. Here is your chance to mingle and get to know some people who have similar interests. 8th grade parents – this is a big year for you. Savor these last months of St. Ambrose community before you go on to high school. If you are new this year, please know that you are welcome! If you don’t want to come alone, recruit someone you met in carpool or at the New Parents meeting, and come together!
  2. You don’t have to be a German cook to participate! If you have a to-die-for macaroni and cheese recipe, please bring it! Your side dishes and desserts don’t have to be German!
  3. The Oktoberfest is for adults only. You may be thinking that you love your children, and would love for them to come too. We love your children as well, but this is an event for you! There will be a Movie night in early December for the entire family. One pearl of wisdom that I have learned over my 33 years as a parent: every parent needs some time to be an adult… without distraction of watching over their children. It is good for the soul to have time with other adults.
  4. Beer is being served (it is Oktoberfest!) but it is not the purpose of this event. This is not a college kegger. The purpose of the evening is to build community and get to know each other. Come and enjoy the people, the food, and the beer. You’ll be surprised at the wonderful people you will meet!
  5. We have wonderful Social Chairs who are running this event. Michele Robbins and Eileen Bliss have things well planned. However, we need to know if you are coming so we can make sure we have enough food, supplies, and seats. Please let us know today if you are going to come. You can reply to this email, and then send in your check ($20/person; $35/couple) tomorrow morning.
  6. If you are the kind of person who wants to help, please sign up on the school website signup page. I am sure they would love to have another dessert or side dish. Let us know, but please send in the form which is outside the school office. We want to make labels for the entries (and make sure we have enough food!)
  7. Everyone is busy. Take some time for yourself. Call some friends and invite them to join you. Take a night off. You need it.

I look forward to seeing you there! Saturday – Oct. 18 – 6:00pm – St Ambrose Parish Center — $20/adult; $35/couple (includes commemorative St. Ambrose Oktoberfest mug!)

God bless,

Barbara Dalmut
