Update from Mrs. Dalmut – September 23, 2014

Dear Parents,

Tonight is our Parent Information Night for the middle school’s Gift of Human Sexuality Program. Please meet in Room 8 at 7pm for the introduction to this program. The instructors, Kevin Bohli and Celia Fructerman,  will be there to answer all your questions. Thank you for your participation. If you have attended the session in a prior year, it is not necessary to attend tonight. Your children will have the classes on Oct. 8, 10, and 17. We had to reschedule the class on the 3rd because of the Choir’s participation in the Worldwide Chldren’s Holy Hour.

Please see the important note below from Mrs. Stalnaker about Cafeteria and Playground Duty. Please keep in mind that you must be compliant with the Safe Environment requirements of the diocese before you can be part of our volunteer program. That includes helping as chaperones on field trips, class parties, and all work on the school property during school hours. You must attend the Virtus seminar and fill out the paperwork from the diocese. I know that it may seem to be a big investment of your time, but I hope you agree that the safety of our children makes it a worthy investment.

I have two prayer requests that are very personal and near to my heart. My mother Theresa is 88, and in poor health. She was admitted to the hospital last night. Second, my daughter donated one of her kidneys to Ryan last June. Ryan is still struggling, and needs your prayers! I would be very grateful for your prayers. Thankfully, my daughter Theresa is doing very well. She is running in a half-marathon on October 5 to help support Ryan’s young family.

God bless,

Barbara Dalmut

Parent Volunteers Needed for Playground and Cafeteria Duty

We all lead such busy lives and signing up for Playground Duty (10:55-12:25) or Cafeteria Duty (11:20-12:50) may not be high on anyone’s to-do list.  I understand, but being the new Cafeteria Supervisor in charge of coordinating these two daily requirements has given me a new perspective.  I would like to thank everyone who has volunteered in the first few weeks of school.

The Playground and Cafeteria Assistants provide an invaluable asset to the school.  The guidance and assistance through careful watching on the playground or helping to open food containers or clean tables in-between lunches cannot be done without enough parent volunteers.  I am extremely grateful for all who have signed up to fulfill their 5 (if you paid $115) or 10 slot requirements.  I appreciate your forethought and assistance in filling the calendar.

I apologize to those parents who signed up thinking that they were compliant only to find out they were not.  As Cafeteria Supervisor I must follow the rules of the Arlington Diocese for the continued safety of our children.  The Diocese of Arlington has sent the following reminder:  Please remember that “Virtus compliant” does not necessarily mean an individual is fully compliant with the policies of the Diocese of Arlington’s Office for Child Protection & Safety.  Attendance at a Virtus seminar is just one part of being a compliant volunteer and employee.  The paperwork for background checks is the other part, and both are necessary for individuals to volunteer in the Diocese.

We have several holes in the upcoming weeks on the Playground and Cafeteria Sign Up Genius Calendar.  If you are compliant, please consider signing up for Playground or Cafeteria Duty, we need your help!  Here is the link for your review and action:

Also, we are looking for a paid full-time assistant for Playground Duty for each day (10:55-12:25) or a combination of two individuals if necessary.   Please email me at cafeteria@stambroseschool.org if you are interested.

Thank you for your consideration and help.

Blessings to you,

Clare Stalnaker
