Extended Day Program

After much prayerful consideration, we have decided it is in the best interest of our St. Ambrose School community to delay the opening of our Extended Day Program. As per the licensing guidelines, the program is not able to open safely at this time because we are not able to keep the children separated with the current enrollment numbers.

For more information, see the  July 15 Letter regarding extended Day 2020-2021.

  • The Extended Day Handbook contains important information for parents using St. Ambrose School’s before and after school program.
  • The Extended Day registration form must be completed by every family.  You will be billed the $35 registration fee after your first use of the program.

St. Ambrose School offers an extended day program on days when school is in session. For more details, please see the current Parent/Student Handbook and the Extended Day Handbook.

The day-to-day operation of the program is the responsibility of the Director in consultation with the school principal. The Director, with the approval of the school principal, makes organizational decisions. Ultimately, final responsibility for the program rests with the school principal.

Throughout the afternoon a number of activities and experiences are offered.  Some children like to stick with the same project or stay in the gym for most of the afternoon.  Others like to participate in two or three different activities, while some children just want to spend time with friends or quietly read a book.  Each child chooses the direction his/her afternoon will take.

Children must register in the program in order to attend Extended Day. We request that all students submit the registration form and an emergency form to Extended Day so that parents have the option to use the program as the need arises. These forms will be posted on the web site. There is a non-refundable registration fee of $40.00 per family, which is charged when the family first uses the program each school year.

Days and Hours of Operation

The Extended Day Program begins the first day of school. It will operate on all scheduled school days, except  the Fridays before the Labor Day and Memorial Day weekends; Holy Thursday; and the last day of school. On those days, only the morning portion of the Extended Day Program will operate. The morning session begins at 7:00 a.m. The afternoon program begins when school dismisses. This includes early dismissal days unless otherwise noted. The program closes at 6:00 p.m.

Morning Program: 7 – 8 am

Afternoon Program: 3:15 – 6 pm

Early Dismissal Days: 11:30 am – 6 pm

General Notes/Inclement Weather

In case of delayed openings, the morning Extended Day Program session will open one hour before the announced opening time. On days when there is an early dismissal due to inclement weather, children must be picked up as soon as possible, and no later than two hours after the early school closing.

Payments may be made by either cash or check. Parents will be billed every other week. Payment is due upon receipt. There is a $25.00 charge for each check returned by a bank.

Parents are requested to be prompt when picking up their children. Parents who arrive after 6:00pm will be charged a late fee of $10 for every 5 minutes past the 6pm closing time.

During the afternoon session, a nutritious snack will be provided for each child at no additional cost. Parents are asked to notify the school in writing of any food allergies, since the school is providing the snack. If parents prefer, children may bring a snack from home. On 11:30 dismissal days, students may order pizza, or bring their lunch.
