Happy New Year

Dear Parents:

family with Fr. Fisher at baptismHappy New Year and welcome back!  I hope that you had a wonderful Christmas and will have a blessed New Year.  I wanted to share one exciting event that happened over our break: I was honored and privileged to witness the Baptism of 4th grader Philip Prifold last Friday.  What a special time it was for him and his family. We wish Philip every blessing as he continues his journey in faith.

A few reminders as we begin our routine: the weather will be frigid this week so please ensure that your child brings a coat and other appropriate outer garments.  We will be having indoor recess this week, but even for drop-off and dismissal this is important.  We also ask that all outer garments are labeled with your child’s name.  Also remember that we follow Fairfax County Public Schools for all weather-related closings and delays.  Per our handbook:

St. Ambrose Catholic School follows the decision of Fairfax County public schools for closings and delayed openings.  Announcements may be heard on WMAL-AM 630 and WTOP-FM 103.5, FCPS Channel 21, and the Fairfax County Schools webpage—fcps.edu.  In the event that a delayed opening of school is announced on a day when an early dismissal has been scheduled, there will be no early dismissal that day. On days when Fairfax County schools are not in session, parents will be notified through phone calls and emails from the school about any delays or closings.

On delayed opening days, the Extended Day Program will open one hour before the opening of school.  (e.g., if there is a one hour delay then the Extended Day will begin at 8:00 and if there is a two hour delayed opening it will open at 9:00).  Children who arrive at school before the appointed delayed opening time will be placed in the Extended Day Program and charged accordingly.  On early closing days due to bad weather conditions, Extended Day children should be picked up as soon as possible, and no later than two hours after the early school closing.

Next week we will begin round two of Scantron testing, beginning with 6th and 7th grades.  The following week will be 4th and 5th, and the third week will be 3rd grade.  Please make sure that your children are on time for school.  Next Wednesday is an early release day due to our continuing self-study process for re-accreditation.  If your child is ordering pizza please return the form as soon as possible.  It went home in today’s Wednesday folder.

I look forward to seeing you all at next week’s screening of the documentary “Screenagers.”  This is such an important topic.  See the flier as a reminder.

God bless.
