Mrs. Maria Teresa Tejada is the Principal of St. Ambrose Catholic School. Prior to her tenure at St. Ambrose, she served as Assistant Principal at St. Leo the Great School in Fairfax, VA.
Mrs. Tejada spent eight years in the classroom as a foreign language teacher, teaching kindergarten to fourth grade. She graduated from Marymount University with a degree in business administration with a concentration in International Finance. She completed her master’s degree in School Administration and Supervision from Marymount University and a fellowship in Leadership and Administration at the University of Notre Dame.
Mrs. Tejada has been married since 2001. Mr. and Mrs. Tejada are the proud parents of two girls. One in college and the other is in high school.
Mrs Kiernan has 28 years of teaching experience in Grades 4-8 in the Dioceses of Brooklyn, NY and Arlington, VA. Sixteen of those years were spent teaching Grades 5-8 in St Ambrose Catholic School. After retiring in 2019, Mrs. Kiernan was invited back to assist Mrs. Tejada when she became the new principal in 2020. This is her fourth year in that role, working on administrative tasks in the main office. Outside of school, Mrs Kiernan enjoys reading, traveling and visiting with her two grandchildren in South Carolina.
My husband and I have lived in Fairfax since 1998 and I have been a part of St. Ambrose school since first enrolling our son and daughter in Kindergarten in 2006 and 2007, respectively. Both children attended Kindergarten through 8th grade and have since graduated from High School.
After being a stay at home mother for their first 10 years, I went back to work in the St. Ambrose Parish Office. That was a wonderful experience that allowed me to still participate in school activities and be a parent volunteer while working on campus.
After a temporary move to Rochester, NY in 2013, I returned to St. Ambrose in 2015 to work at the school. As the Office Manager, I have the opportunity to introduce our loving, nurturing, and academically strong school to prospective parents. My favorite part of the job is when a parent makes the decision to enroll their child after realizing that our school will give their child the superior education they desire while offering them an environment to learn and grow in their Catholic faith.
Mrs. Lindsey Whetzel has been working at St. Ambrose for the past four years. She joined the St. Ambrose community after teaching in Catholic high schools across the country for the past ten years. She grew up outside of Detroit, Michigan and earned her bachelor’s degree in Biology at Georgetown University.
After graduating, Lindsey joined a volunteer program called the Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE) through the University of Notre Dame where she earned her Masters in Education while teaching in an East Los Angeles high school. The two years spent in ACE solidified Lindsey’s love of teaching, especially teaching science! She has since taught a variety of math and science classes in high schools in Los Angeles, Washington DC, and San Francisco.
Lindsey loves to play volleyball, read, and hike, especially with her husband, son, daughter, and two dogs.
