“Thank you for the opportunity to attend St. Ambrose”

On September 18, 2017, the Caribbean Island Dominica suffered a direct landfall from Category 5 Hurricane Maria. Mayah and her family were profoundly affected.

From Mayah’s letter to Mrs. Rowley,

I want to thank you for accepting me at St. Ambrose Catholic School.

Last September Hurricane Maria damaged my home, and destroyed my school, and my country Dominica.  My Mom and I were evacuated, and came up to the U.S. to stay with family and go to school.

Initially school was challenging. I didn’t know any teacher or students. Some subjects were different, and I didn’t have friends.  However, after some time, it turned out to be fun.  Best of all I made a lot of friends. My favorite subjects are science and social studies.  My favorite events were Super Day and Field Day.  STEM was also very educational and fun.

I’d like to thank my teachers who have helped me through the difficult days.  I’m happy about my performance at school, getting 1st Honors and making all of you and my family proud.

Once again, thank you for the opportunity to attend St. Ambrose.

Mayah
