Updates – June 4
Posted on June 6, 2019
Dear Parents:
As you know, Mrs. Pat Kiernan is retiring after twenty eight years of teaching, and sixteen years of service to our school. In order to celebrate her time with us we will have an open house reception on Friday, June 14 from 6:00 pm-9:00 pm in the parish hall. Please stop by to wish her well. We are asking for donations of appetizers: if your last name begins with A-N please consider donating savory appetizers; if your last name begins with O-Z please consider donating a dessert. We could also use some help with the set-up at 3:00 pm. This would be a great opportunity for Confirmation service hours. Let’s give Mrs. Kiernan a great send-off.
It is with sadness, but not surprise that the following announcement came from Mrs. May yesterday:
Dear Friends and Families,
It is with mixed emotion that I tell you that I will not be returning to St. Ambrose School next year. I have been offered a position at West Springfield High School and I have decided to accept their offer. As many of you may know, it was always my intent to leave St. Ambrose with my son, Evan who graduates from the 8th grade on Friday. After 8 1/2 years as a teacher and 14 years as a school parent, you all have made it a very difficult decision! Your friendship and support for me, my family and the Resource program has made it so hard for me to say goodbye. It has been a privilege to work with and support you, your incredible children and the staff at St. Ambrose. We have learned much and accomplished great things together!
However, I am leaving you it extremely capable hands. Mallery Holleran will be taking over as the Resource teacher and Gail Carome will be supporting her as a teaching assistant. Mallery is currently seeking her certification in special education from Marymount University. She has outstanding communication and collaboration skills and a gift for anticipating and responding to the needs of her students. Dr. Carome has extensive classroom experience and been providing support to our faculty and students for many years. They are a great team and tremendous asset to the students, staff and families of St. Ambrose. They will be a perfect fit for the Resource program!
Additionally, Mallery and I will be working together in the next few weeks and over the summer to make this a successful transition. Over the years, I have been in the fortunate position to witness God’s presence at St. Ambrose School. I truly believe that this is one of those times.
I will miss you all and I am grateful for our time together. We have had an awesome run!! I count you and the experiences that we have shared among my greatest blessings.
Fondly,
Maria May
We will miss Mrs. May very much but we are excited for her next great adventure. Ms. Holleran and Mrs. Carome are a great team and I foresee a very smooth transition. We are in the process of the search for a 2nd grade teacher and I will let you know when this is finalized.
God bless.
Angela Rowley
