Update from Mrs. Dalmut – October 21
Posted on October 24, 2014
Dear Parents,
We are trying to track down all the problems with the Emergency Communications. If you send us an email, we will make any changes necessary. Many emergency contacts did not get notified. Please double check with your contacts.
Here is an important message from Mrs. Boyle, our School Nurse:
What a difference 2 days can make! Last Friday we had near perfect attendance. By Monday morning a gastrointestinal virus hit our school and the health clinic has almost needed a revolving door. In nearly each case the student presented with diffuse mild to moderate abdominal discomfort, no nausea, fever, vomiting or diarrhea. Within 12 to 16 hours the abdominal discomfort developed into vomiting and diarrhea. Currently we are cleaning every common surface with disinfecting wipes. Students are being reminded to thoroughly wash their hands after using the bathroom and use hand sanitizer as needed.
We need your help! If your student complains of abdominal discomfort, please take them seriously. We recommend that they stay at home for a day in case their condition develops into a full blown case of vomiting and diarrhea. If potentially ill students stay home, it lessens the likelihood the illness will spread to other students. If your child does become ill, Virginia law requires them to stay home until they are fever free (100.0 F oral) without the use of Tylenol or Ibuprofen for 24 hours. They also need to not have vomited and/or had an episode of diarrhea for 24 hours. Finally, please reinforce the need for them to wash their hands thoroughly after going to the restroom and upon arrival home from school each day.
God bless,
Barbara Dalmut
