School Year 2016-2017

Dear Parents:

I hope your children have enjoyed their first few days of summer break.  The teachers have been winding everything down in their classrooms this week, and making preparations for next year!  Please note that our summer office hours are 9:00 am-1:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

I have very good news regarding our PTO Board for next year.  We have a full slate of officers for 2016-2017, and we are very grateful to them for stepping up:

President – Sarah Moran

Vice-President – Vann Salinger-Swett

Treasurer – Amy Mitchell

Secretary – Lorraine Sloma-Williams

Teacher Rep – Maria-Pia Fernandez

Social – Maria Lopez

Service – Clare Stalnaker

STEM – Meghan Scott

I am looking forward to planning a great year with them.  In addition, we are grateful to our three gala chairs who have stepped up to chair Gala 2016-2017: Michelle Robbins, Eileen Bliss, and Heather Terreri.  We have already met regarding themes and ideas – and believe me, they are full of enthusiasm and great ideas!

With regard to staffing, I want to point out two changes.  I have decided that Jaime Vincent will be the 3rd grade teacher.  Her work in 4th grade with Mrs. Park has given her great insight into expectations for 4th grade.  She has strong classroom management skills and will be a real asset to our school.  She will be accompanied by none other than our very own Mrs. Julie Rubio as her aide.  This quiet gem in our midst has a degree in Math and has previously held a teaching certificate.  They will be a dynamic team.

After a year at St. Ambrose School, I have been so impressed with all that our small school has to offer, and we are putting together a plan this summer to coordinate all after-school and enrichment offerings.  What I love is the strong family feeling that is present and permeates the classrooms, hallways, and all gatherings.  To that end our theme next year will be “You are known; you are loved.”  This sums up what we excel at: knowing each individual student.  We have been very strong in STEM, under the expert eye of Mrs. Kate O’Connor, who was our STEM coordinator on the PTO Board for the last two years.  Together, with Mrs. Gorak, she created a wonderful after school program of STEAM (incorporating art into the science).  As we look to next year, and our dedication to educating the whole child, we will put our religion and faith at the center and focus on STREAM (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Arts, Math).  It is already what we do, but let’s celebrate this in a focused way!

I wish you all a blessed and peaceful summer.  I ask for your prayers as we spend this summer preparing for the next school year.

Sincerely,

Angela Rowley
